Computer Science

Are you an introvert? Do you hate talking? Is verbal communication not your strongest forté? Do you dislike being around people? Did you choose the software industry because it is all about computers and no people?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, and you are working in the software industry, we have bad news for you! Recent discussions show that communication has been rated as one of the most required skills for the software industry. So, we thought we would highlight three reasons why you should start working on your communication skills and three ways in which you can improve your skills during a pandemic! Yes, do not worry, we do understand that talking is not the only way of communication, but today we are going to talk about why talking is worth the talk!

Read along.

a. Talking, one of the most effective ways of communication is required in multiple aspects of the numbers world which include the presentation of projects to clients and delivering a project. It is said that ideas are good, but communicating those ideas is better (okay, we might have made it up!); but being practical, do you think you can roll without communicating with people around you? We did not think so.

b. If you choose to be a project manager within the software industry, not only will you need an excellent command over software such as Trello and Jira, but you will also need a high level of communication skills to manage your team. Delegation, persuasion, coordination, and delivery — all of these require communication. So, you might want to reconsider canceling those dinner plans with your friends. We mean, would you not want to practice talking among five people who are all in their minds? Practice begins at home, so what are you waiting for?

c. So, you decided to be a programmer because it is all numbers and no people. We wish we could keep your hopes up with no people thingy, but as the competition increases, you will need to practice real-world languages along with the nerdy ones you have been drowning into! One of the crucial reasons communication is essential for programmers is due to the channel they have with the client who would want the delivery to be pitch-perfect!

Now, developing the skills of communication is neither a one day work, nor will we suggest you believe so. To ease the process, we would suggest you following three things:

a. Talk b. Talk c. Talk

Let us work together and work past the fear of communication! Wait for next Tuesday to read more about what we are talking about!
